Hannigan's Fleet was created in collaboration with the late, great, Northwest maritime artist, Melinda Hannigan - aka "The Rust Queen".
I always wanted to create again with Melinda having had the privilege, as art director, to work with her on the documentary, "Sweet Crude" in 2009. Since then, Melinda had gone on to create a stunning volume of work that further captivated me. While attending Melinda's show at the Rovzar Gallery in 2015, I envisioned her work translating beautifully on a 3d-panel concept I had been developing for "Project: Co-Mingle".
After presenting a mockup on a metal sheet with photographs of her oil paintings mounted on magnets, Melinda gave me permission to forge ahead with the concept. Melinda handed me a key to her studio at Equinox, gave me the password to her computer, shared her high-resolution digital library of over 200 paintings, and last but not least, granted me creative autonomy. Hannigan's Fleet surfaced after selecting sections from over 150 of Melinda's oil paintings.
